What is Religion? Most assume religious institutions were created to help bring people closer to the divine, but what if their true nature was to have the exact opposite effect?
In this powerful presentation, Darth Phaedrus breaks down the roots of all religions. Joined by Justin Carpenter, he shows the commonalities throughout. Many rulers and institutions have used religious authority to influence, manipulate, and control populations, often using fear, guilt, or dogma to maintain power. This presentation will reflect on how religion can both appear to nurture spiritual connections but in actuality, create barriers, suppress free thought, and limit personal spiritual exploration.
This is the first in the series to provide a baseline of the fundamentals in religion before we go deeper into specific religions and their origins in follow-up episodes.
